Ayen Lai: Life and Ministry
“The call of Jesus Christ the Lord convinced me to get involved with ministering with Jangkar Harapan Indonesia.” Ayen said remembering the day she was introduced to a confident Ps Bill Myers in 1985.
“Since the 4th grade of elementary school, I aspired to be a Christian religion teacher. I started serving in Sunday school and was active in the youth service while I was in junior high,” she told me as we sat down in our office in the North Sulawesi province. After graduating from high school, she entered the PPTJ Bible School, Java Theology Education Center, in Karanglo Malang, now called SATI. She continued sharing about her early years of full time ministry. “After graduating from SATI in 1984, I enrolled as a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ at the GGSJA Synod. I served in Bekasi, and in 1985 I also helped serve at JHI. The service that God entrusted to me at JHI was to take care of Jangkar Harapan Bible School through videos. Now, I am in the process of reviewing our content that is on DVD.”
“I am happy that I have been able to serve the body of Christ from 14 years old till now, I am 65 years old. But It is also my joy to see many of my family members and friends serving as well. My sister serves as a pastor at the Bethani Church in Surabaya, and two of my nephews serve as pastors at GSJA Church in Kosambi and one at GSJA Church in Poris, Tangerang. Also my other four nephews who may not be pastors, are also active in the ministry. Many of my friends are involved in the ministry and have also become pastors. Praise the Lord Jesus Christ, I enjoy serving with JHI and blessing all of Indonesia through what I do.”
“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. … If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.” 1 Peter 4:10-11
