Matthew 4:8-10

Mighty Servants of God. Erecting idols is not as common a practice today as it was long ago. But idols don’t have to be physical sculptures. They may be immaterial: pride, prestige, respect, success, vanity. Physical manifestations of idols might be reflected in an obsessive desire to look young, naming a building after oneself, or insisting on possessing the latest electronic gadgets. Jesus lived a life of simplicity and service, with a singular focus of worshiping and serving God.

Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.” Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’” – Matthew 4:8-10

Prayer: God, expose and uproot idols that keep me from living and leading with Jesus’ singular focus. In His name I pray, amen.
